12 Kits Of Occasions {October 2014}

Thursday, October 30, 2014

Today is the last we post our 12 Kits Of Occasions October kit projects.  Normally we post on the last day of the month, but since tomorrow is Halloween, we are posting a day early.
This month's comes from Jessica  packed full of autumnal colors, images, and sentiments! Thanks to Tracey for this month's kit photos and collage.

I couldn't resist framing this cute acorn {colored with Copics and clear Wink of Stella} and words Jessica cut with her Silhouette by embossing 3 pieces from the WP9 Holiday Apertures die set.

For this fun scene I created the background with distress inks and stencils made with the Landscape Borders dies from WP9.  I also colored all of the cute characters from Avery Elle and the 'thanks' with Copics and clear Wink of Stella.  Adding the fun Foliage Frame makes it feel as if they are walking through the woods...to Grandmother's house maybe:)

Finally, I coated this sentiment with glitter and layered it over vellum.  I added sequins above and below the vellum to add sparkle, but keep it subtle.
Be sure to stop by and visit the other members and see what they've made this month!

Meet Piper

Monday, October 27, 2014

If we're connecting on Instagram or Facebook you already know that Ryan and I adopted a sweet girl named Piper! She's a 5 year old German Shepherd who was used as a breeding dog and then dumped at a high-kill shelter somewhere in the south.  She was brought up north by Louies's Legacy and fostered for a few weeks while she recovered from her most recent litter.

She's a sweet, gentle girl who loves to play.  She gets along well with other dogs which is great because we'd love to be able to bring her along when we visit friends and family with dogs and have them come visit us.   She's only been with us a few days, but she seems to be adjusting well.  We feel very lucky to have her!

Friday Inspiration

Friday, October 24, 2014

It's Friday!  You know what that means....
Every Friday new projects from around the web are added to The File.  Some from my favorite blogs, some I may have happily just discovered.  This is week #190!  I had a fun challenge and giveaway for week #100, 100 Weeks Of Inspiration.  I'll have to do something fun for week #200.
 It's only 10 weeks away!

Happy New Year

Monday, October 20, 2014

Good Morning!
I just LOVED the card that Dawn made during this month's release showcasing the Twenty Fifteen stamp set.  I love how she clustered her stamped and die cut images together to create a really fun, graphic look.  I decided to create a similar design using different colors and dies.  Kraft, white, and red is another one of my favorite holiday color combinations. Using these colors I stamped my cluster of images from Twenty Fifteen as well as Little Bits and Dream Believer.

I added some rhinestones and a large layered snowflake using all 3 dies from the Snowflake Trio.  I used these layered snowflakes on my jars yesterday too.  Love how they look together!

Have a great day!

A few More Jars

Sunday, October 19, 2014

I really loved Melissa's jar idea and after making one and loving how it turned out, I decided to make a few more.  They are really quick and easy to do.  Perfect for gift giving!  I've already given one to my friend, Jackie, with a few tea light candles inside for her to display during the winter holidays.

White, silver and vellum make a beautiful, elegant combination that's perfect winter and not just Christmas.

After my jars were painted and sanded, I die cut my tags and vellum from some of my favorite tag dies.  I stamped all the images using WPlus9's Winter Woodland and Iconic Christmas in Silver Lining dye ink and also embossed some with silver embossing powder.  I created some layered snowflakes using Snowflake Trio dies to accent each tag.

The photos have a pinkish hue because I was wearing a pink sweater when I took these pics ;)

Hope you're having a great weekend!

Merry Little Christmas

Monday, October 13, 2014

Hi! Just popping in to share a little card I made using the sketch from CAS(E) this sketch!  No work today so I'm spending the day doing laundry and making a few more jars for gifts this Christmas.  I plan to fill them with candles or cookies and hand them out to a few special co-workers.

I did the same die embossing technique as yesterday, but only ran it through halfway.

Thanks for stopping by!

Halloween Apertures

Sunday, October 12, 2014

Holiday Apertures dies are not just for Christmas cards.  As I've said before, this is a die set that will take up permanent residence on your craft table.  I have separated my 4 pieces, but they very easily fit back together and can be held in place with a little bit of low-tack tape.  This is exactly what I've done here, but instead of running them through my machine with the intention of cutting, I've embossed.  I use a Cuttlebug and here is
my sandwich from the bottom up:
A Plate
B Plate
1 Tan Mat
Cardstock
Dies (Face Down)
B Plate

They create the most beautiful quilted look and feel and can be used to frame any images.  I've chosen to create a Halloween card to send to my nephews.  They're getting older and probably won't appreciate a Halloween card much longer.   Until then, I'll enjoy making these for them.

Have a great day!

Christmas Greetings

Saturday, October 11, 2014

I love all of the brightly colored lights at Christmastime, but my favorite are the simple white twinkle lights.  I made a few tags last night using the string of lights from Festive Greetings.  I stamped them on grey cardstock and colored them with a white jellyroll pen.  To add a little sparkle I colored them with my clear Wink of Stella glitter pen.  Shock, I know ;)!

I gave each tag a different holiday sentiment found in the new Strictly Sentiments 6 stamp set.  I sprinkled around some tiny snowflakes from Winter Woodland and some rhinestones and my tags were done.

This morning I decided to turn these tags into cards using the new sketch from Retro Sketches

Even though I sometimes say, "these cards would be easy to mass produce" I never actually mass produce cards myself.  But since these tags were all ready to go when I sat down this morning, it made mass producing these a no-brainer.  All I had to do was emboss my backgrounds with the Snowflake Trio, add a little twine and some banners and they were all done.  It feels good to make a dent in my holiday card making this early!

Have a great long weekend!
I am so excited to have 3 days off:)

Merry Lights

Thursday, October 9, 2014

Hello!
Just got home from physical therapy and decided I had a little creative energy to release too.  My leg is getting better slowly, but I'm happy to report I can walk up the stairs putting pressure on my leg.  Down the stairs is a different story, but I'm getting there.

I started off by running my card front through my Cuttlebug with the stitched border rectangle die from Holiday Apertures.  I then masked off the center ,lining the masks up with the stitched lines.
I then stamped the string of lights, from Festive Greetings, repeatedly to fill the space.  After coloring the lights with Copics, I added a highlight with a white gel pen, and finally I coated them with my clear Wink of Stella Glitter pen.  The metal caps on the lights were colored with a silver Wink of Stella glitter pen.

I gave that a second to dry and then I stamped the word Christmas from Hand Lettered Holiday.  I die cut the word Merry using the Hand Lettered Holiday Die and inlaid a second one that was die cut with black cardstock.  I couldn't resist covering the word in glitter too!

Have a great night.
I'll be adding this week's projects to the

The Magic Of Christmas

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

The WPlus9 release got me in the mood to start making Christmas cards.  Before that I just wasn't feelin' it.  It helps also, that the weather has started to cool down and make it feel like the holidays are actually not that far off.

For both of my cards I used one of the Landscape Border dies to create a mask.  Inside the masked area I stamped this little snowflake cluster from Winter Woodland in three different colors before removing the mask. I stamped the sentiment, also from Winter Woodland, in Versafine ink.

Each card front is framed out using the largest stitched rectangle from the Holiday Apertures die set.  After die cutting the Stag Trio from black cardstock, I chose the two I wanted to use on my cards, coated them with clear Wink Of Stella, and adhered them with foam adhesive.

You can reuse your mask over and over again which makes making these cards super easy to mass produce.

To me, the movement of the snowflakes towards the reindeer is like Christmas magic giving the reindeer flight.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Wplus9 October 2014 Holiday Release

Sunday, October 5, 2014

Good Morning!
I've got a few more cards today using the new WPlus9 release products.

This first one uses the new Winter Woodland set.  I created my scene inside a previously released snowflake die called Simple Snowflake.  I stamped my sentiment using Snowflake Backdrops in Cranberry Crush ink.  I framed it out with the Holiday Apertures die.  That's a must have die set that will likely never leave my desk.

My next card also uses several of the pieces cut by the Holiday Apertures dies.  On the small stitched rectangle I stamped the large snowflake stamp from Snowflake Backdrops.  Before stamping, I inked up the stamp with two colors of ink: Lake House and Nautical Navy.  I then ran it through my Xyron face down so that the adhesive would be on the front.  I added Prisma glitter to the front and burnished it with my finger.  I did the same thing to the scarf from the Winter Woodland die set.

After adding the scarf to the deer from the Stag Trio die I adhered him to the front of the card using foam adhesive.
I love the serenity and simplicity of it so I decided to add my sentiment to the inside instead.  I stamped the Merry Christmas sentiment from Hand Lettered Holiday in Nautical Navy ink.

I hope you have enjoyed this release as much as I have!
Thanks so much for all of your kind comments and I hope you enjoy your new WPlus9 stamps and dies!
