Coloring Embossing Paste {Chain Of Events}

Friday, August 15, 2014

Happy Friday!
Today I have a card to share that took an unusual path to becoming this design.  It started with this week's Make It Monday.  This week the focus is on coloring your embossing/ modeling/ texture {whatever you prefer} paste.  I mixed up my colors using WPlus9 Ink Refills in Wild Mango, Sweet Nectar, and Mojito.  I spread it onto my cardstock using this Heidi Swapp scallop stencil and I set it aside to dry.

While it was drying I watched this video by Jennifer McGuire where she mentions Tasnim and that she makes videos too.  You know I love to watch videos ;)  So I did a YouTube search for Tasnim.  I found her channel, but also a video she did for Ellen Hutson.  In the video she uses an Altenew stamp set where the images are tangrams.  She showed a watercolor technique using the fish stamp.

When I went back to check on this piece I had made it hit me!
Fish scales!  I used WPlus9 Quilt Cuts II dies to make tracing templates to create my fish. Finally, I stamped my sentiment from PTI's Friends 'Til The End stamp set.
Inspiration...it's a funny thing!

Check out the projects in this week's Friday Inspiration File.
Who knows where it might lead!

Love You {Forever}

Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Today I have another card using distress paints.
They are even great to stamp with.
I dabbed a little onto my craft sheet, tapped the 'love' stamp into in, and stamped.
I was surprised how well it worked, even with a stamp that had text!

The weekend is almost here.
Do you have any plans?
We are going to a Halloween party.
Cute huh?

All You Need Is {LOVE}

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

Today I have another project to share with you using distress paints.
This time I put a line of blue, a line of green, and a line of yellow paint  onto my craft mat and swirled the paper into it.
Instead of using the circle on this one, I wanted to use the negative.

So happy to see you again ;)

Rainbow Swirl

Good Morning.
I'm still playing around with my distress paints. I really love these paints because the dauber style makes them easy to use and clean up, but really any paints would work for these techniques.

This time I thought, if stripes of paint make a cool design, what about putting down color in a circle and swirling the cardstock into it!
Loved the way it came out.

There are so many things you can do with the designs you create.
I have a few more to share with you later.
Thanks for coming by today!

Birthday Wishes

Happy Sunday!
I just got up. {kind of late, I know}
I'm listening to the coffee brew and looking forward to that first sip.
So I'll keep this short.

I recently watched a video where Kristina used her distress paints by swiping them on her craft sheet in stripes and then pulled her piece of paper across it.  I loved the look so that's what I've done here.

Have a great day!

Hello!
I'm back after a quick long-weekend road trip.
 Every year we have a small family reunion in PA.
It's always a lot of fun.  My very first blog post was about our family reunion in 2008!
I'll share a few photos from this year's fun later this week, but for now I have a card.

We were only gone for a few days, but I really missed my craft room.
I couldn't wait to get back in there and I decided to start with Erin's Make It Monday challenge for this week: Defined Watercolor.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Painted Hearts

Thursday, June 13, 2013

To create my hearts I placed the stencil onto cardstock and dabbed on colors randomly letting them mix in spots.  After removing the stencil I turned it over and pressed the paint that was on top of the stencil onto another piece of cardstock to get the positive imprint. After the paints dried I die cut them with WP9 Hearts and added some doodling on and behind the hearts.

This is the last Cloud9 challenge.  I'm sad to see it go, but there is plenty of Wplus9 inspiration still to be had with Dawn's Monday Mood Board challenges!

Have a great day!

Happy!

I recently picked up some beautiful new MME papers and thought this MIM is the perfect opportunity to use them.

A few posts ago I had tried an idea I had using modeling paste.  The results were good, but exactly what I wanted.
Stephanie had a great suggestion:

Another great post Kara. I like the layered look you've achieved here and all the creative experimenting you've been doing lately too. I am curious, if you've tried using the paste on a nonstick sheet, and if you can transfer an element to paper after it dries?

Genius, right?
So, of course, I tried it right away.
It totally worked.  I spread a thin layer and a thick layer of modeling paste over stencils directly onto my craft sheet.  Both worked!
Tip #1: Let it dry COMPLETELY.  I get a little impatient sometimes:)
In the photo below you can see I tried coloring them in various ways before and after spreading it onto my craft sheet.  The pieces colored with gelatos were colored before spreading over the stencil.
( I used my least favorite gelato color to test..lol! Just slice a piece off of the stick and mix it into your modeling paste with a palette knife)
  Because it had water based color added to it, it dried more flexible than the other pieces.  The ones that are solid modeling paste are a bit more stiff and brittle.
Tip #2: Be careful.  Both keep their shape well, but are still very fragile.
They took every coloring medium I tried very well.
 My favorite were the pieces sprayed with the HS Color Shine sprays.

Thanks for stopping by!
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
