Faux Sashiko Stitching

Tuesday, June 30, 2015

Hello there..
Mid morning is really my most productive time of day.  I'm not really a morning person or a night owl, but between 10 and 2pm is when I have the most energy and feel the most creative.  Normally I am at work during those hours so I really appreciate summer vacation for that reason.

Today I have a background that I created to resemble Sashiko Stitching.  It's a beautiful Japanese art form born out of necessity to repair textiles and clothing. I love using textile techniques on my cards.  A few years ago I used Shibori as my inspiration.  Everything can be used as inspiration for paper crafting and card making!

I started by creating about 10 circle masks.  Then, using the circle stamp from WP9 Greetings and Salutations, I stamped my scallops.  I used a white gel pen to add my 'stitching'.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!
What about you? When are your most creative/productive hours? Are you able to craft at those times?

Colored Cover Plates

Monday, June 29, 2015

More diagonal stripes.....  I just love how they look as a backdrop.  This card was inspired by Laura's Make It Monday: Adding Color To Cover Plates.  For my card I used a cover plate from WP9 called Birds and Branches.  I die cut it from white paper and colored it with Copic Markers.  I decided to trim off the border around it and adhere it to a piece of cardstock that had been stenciled and then die cut with SSS Stitched Rectangle Dies.

I added some stamped details using a sentiment and images from PTI Beautiful Butterflies stamp set.  One of my all time favorites!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Saturday Stamp Set Roulette

Saturday, June 27, 2015

Good Afternoon
We started the day with a quick trip to the farmer's market this morning.  The organic eggs are so beautiful.  Speckled blue, green, and brown.  I hate to crack them :)

By the time we got home it started to rain.  Perfect crafting weather in my opinion.  I wasn't sure what to make so I decided it was time to play Stamp Set Roulette again! I chose these two sets from PTI, Trendy Tree Tops and Sweet Baby.  I shared my first two cards on Instagram.  They were cute, but didn't feel like me.  I refined the design, simplified it, and chose slightly softer colors.  Ahhh, this is what I was going for!

I made a blue version as well.  These would be perfect thank yous from a new mother.  I think I'll make more of the blue for my husband's coworker.

Thanks so much for coming by.
Enjoy your weekend!

Just A Note {Using Leftovers}

Friday, June 26, 2015

Everything on this card was a 'leftover', bits and pieces from other projects.

I suspended the die cut word, left over from a project a few days ago, across an open circle.  I layered the same word die cut in black behind the word and on the inside of the circle.  I stamped a  sentiment and this card was done in minutes!

Thanks for coming by.
It's Friday! New projects have been added to the Friday Inspiration File {Week #224}
TGIF!

A Good Friend {PTI Blog Hop}

Thursday, June 25, 2015

My For Sale page has been updated with new sets and dies!

Good Morning!
Today's card was created with the PTI Blog Hop inspiration photo in mind.  I pulled inspiration from the colors {orange, white, and blue} and the design {stripes and flowers}.

I started by stamping the medium sized flower and then masking it off.  Then I stamped the large flower and masked it off.  Next, I stamped the smallest flower and again masked it off.  Finally, I did the same for all of the leaves.  Leaving the masks in place, I positioned a stencil over my card front.  I applied some distress ink through the stencil.  This is why I prefer using copy paper to create my masks, the stripes go right up to the flowers and leaves without leaving white space.  After I removed the stencil and all of the masks I did all of the black stamping.  The sentiment, additional floral images, and flower centers really stand out.

I look forward to seeing what you have created.
Enjoy the hop!

Wonderfully Blessed

Wednesday, June 24, 2015

Good Morning
Using flowers, leaves, and berries from two different sets I created this floral arrangement.  I prefer to create my masks from regular old copy paper.  They hold up well and they are thin enough to allow the stamped images to lay close to each other without a gap.  I must have stamped this all about six times and ruined five of them trying to watercolor them.  Finally decided to give up on that and move to a medium I am much more comfortable with, copics.

Finally, I was happy with the result.  I die cut a word sentiment and backed it with black cardstock popped up with foam adhesive.

Nice to see you again today!

Inside Out

Tuesday, June 23, 2015

I had so much fun making this one.  Layering up all of the elements, blending the ink for the sky, matching up the inside and outside, and creating two scenes using the same background.  This week's Make It Monday is about bringing the inside of the card out.

One of my grey copics needs refilling and I don't have the refill so I had to make do.  Guess I need to place an order for crafty stuff...darn! ;)

This is one of my all-time favorite PTI sets.  I just love it.

Thanks so much for stopping by again today.
See you later!

Doodle Leaves

Monday, June 22, 2015

Hello again! Today is the first day of my summer vacation YAY!  I got up early and got my exercise out of the way.  It's only day one ,so I'm not patting myself on the back quite yet.  After breakfast I decided I had earned a little craft time.

I started this project by stamping these solid leaf images in a fun color combo of WP9 Nautical Navy, Lake House, and Sweet Gelato Dye Ink.  I allowed time for the ink to dry before adding some doodling with a white gel pen. I then colored in the entire background with a T1 Copic Marker.

I added a little texture to the background by applying some rubbing alcohol through a stencil.  I used a paper towel to pick up the alcohol and press it through the stencil. Finally, I stamped the sentiment on vellum using Versamark ink and embossed it in white.

Thanks so much for coming by!

My Main Squeeze

Friday, June 19, 2015

Yay!! Summer break is finally here!
Today's card mixes the old with the new.  Main Squeeze and Milk and Cookies.  I cut up the large stamp from Main Squeeze to remove the lemon image.  That way I could stamp some images from Milk and Cookies in its place.

I did a little masking to arrange the fruit within the sentiment.

Thanks so much for coming by! I look forward to having more time to drop by and leave comments now that school is out!
