Monster Tags

Saturday, April 11, 2015

I couldn't help it.  When I looked at the dies in the Encouraging Words Die Set all I could see were monster teeth!  I decided to make a few fun birthday tags.  I posted them on Instagram and my friend's son already put dibs on one!

I started by die cutting the tag, from Love Showers Layers Dies, twice.  In one I die cut a circle, using Love Mom Layers, to create the mouth.  I backed the mouths with 'teeth' from the Encouraging Words Dies.  To create the monster 'eyes' I stamped to different circle images from Encouraging Words.  I added 'eyelashes' to the girl by partially inking a stamp from Botanical Bunch and the 'eyebrows' for the boy partially inking a stamp from Dream Believer!

The girl was dressed up with a cluster of flowers from Love Mom Layers Dies and a bow from Smart Kitty.  The boy got a simple bow tie from Smart Kitty.  The birthday sentiments are from Unforgettable.  Finally, the insides of their mouths were created by painting on WPlus9 Spray Mists {Girl: Sweet Nectar and Sweet Gelato, Boy: Lake House, Sweet Gelato, and Sweet Nectar}through a striped stencil and then die cut with Love Mom Layers circle die.

Nice to see you again. Thanks for visiting!

Flutter {Paper Casting}

Sunday, September 28, 2014

Hello again!
I'm getting this card in under the wire for this week's Make It Monday challenge. I made the toilet paper butterfly last week, let it dry, and cut around the butterfly shape.  With an xacto knife, I roughed up the edges.  I splattered the butterfly and the background with spray mists.  I dripped the color on rather than spraying because I didn't want to add too much moisture.  I probably would have lost a lot of the detail from the initial casting if it got too wet.

A few little details and it's done.
I notice I've been using black a lot on my cards lately, going through a phase.
 I love the contrast.
Thanks for coming by again today!
See you later.

Coloring Embossing Paste {Chain Of Events}

Friday, August 15, 2014

Happy Friday!
Today I have a card to share that took an unusual path to becoming this design.  It started with this week's Make It Monday.  This week the focus is on coloring your embossing/ modeling/ texture {whatever you prefer} paste.  I mixed up my colors using WPlus9 Ink Refills in Wild Mango, Sweet Nectar, and Mojito.  I spread it onto my cardstock using this Heidi Swapp scallop stencil and I set it aside to dry.

While it was drying I watched this video by Jennifer McGuire where she mentions Tasnim and that she makes videos too.  You know I love to watch videos ;)  So I did a YouTube search for Tasnim.  I found her channel, but also a video she did for Ellen Hutson.  In the video she uses an Altenew stamp set where the images are tangrams.  She showed a watercolor technique using the fish stamp.

When I went back to check on this piece I had made it hit me!
Fish scales!  I used WPlus9 Quilt Cuts II dies to make tracing templates to create my fish. Finally, I stamped my sentiment from PTI's Friends 'Til The End stamp set.
Inspiration...it's a funny thing!

Check out the projects in this week's Friday Inspiration File.
Who knows where it might lead!

{PURE} Color Combo #2

Sunday, April 6, 2014

Tomorrow is our close friends' son's birthday.
He will be 8!

For his card I used another new favorite color combination that I think is perfect for boy/masculine cards.  To create the stripes I used a stencil, ink, and little daubers.
The ink when sponged onto cardstock colors completely without much work.
I have a project to share soon where it truly looks like colored cardstock, but is white cardstock colored with a PURE Color Dye Ink
At first it may appear splotchy, but as it soaks into the paper it really evens out and the dauber strokes are undetectable!

The Sweet Nectar appears a bit orange in these photos, but is actually more of a melon color.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Pink Marble

Sunday, March 23, 2014

This card was a lot of fun to create.
It was more of an experiment than anything else and I love the texture of the end result.
It reminds me of marble, but also has the look {in person} of a soft, fuzzy texture.

I created the heart by stamping and embossing the sentiment first.
Then, I wet the paper and added the distress inks using a finger dauber. Finally, I flicked and dripped  droplets of water onto the heart.
To create the background I added the color to the paper directly from the ink pad.
I added water {in flicks, drips, and spritzes} and dried the piece about 6 times until I was finished.  After it was dry, I stamped the sentiment and heat embossed it.  I used a stencil, Versamark ink, and a finger dauber to apply the embossed hearts.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Golden Scallops

Tuesday, March 4, 2014

Hi!
I finally used my new Tropical Teal cardstock.
It's a beautiful color, but much darker than I expected.
Something I'll use in small doses.  I think I'll like the ink better than the cardstock.

To create this background I applied Versamark ink directly to the stencil, turned the stencil over onto my card front, rubbed it to transfer the ink, and finally gold embossed it.
I expected the scallops to be solid, but like the way it turned out with just the outline.

Hope you're having a great day!

Butterfly Shine

Monday, March 3, 2014

Good Morning!
Another snow day here.
It's kind of a good thing since instead of cleaning and doing laundry yesterday,
I sat on the couch for hours and cried while reading The Fault In Our Stars.
It's sweet and funny, but also very emotional.
Because I work in a K-8 school, I tend to read a lot of young adult/teen fiction.
I really enjoy it. Some of my favorite novels were written for children.

I did take a break from the book long enough, not to toss in a load of laundry, but to play around a little more with my color shine sprays.
I did run the dishwasher ;)

I sprayed the color shine sprays onto a butterfly mask and then turned it over onto a piece of cardstock.  I made a mint version too.

Thanks for coming by today!

Color Shine {Watercolor Background}

Sunday, March 2, 2014

A little more watercolor today.

Recently I watched this Video By Yana.
She created the most beautiful backgrounds!
I couldn't wait to try it with my Color Shine spray.
I used a FC Big Brush Pen to fill in the letters of
my sentiment with some coordinating color.

I can't wait to try this technique again!
Thanks for stopping by.

Beautiful Heart

Another snow day here!
Winter seems like it will never end.
But while it's cold and grey out there, it's warm and bright in here.

Hope you're keeping warm!
