12 Kits Of Occasions {May 2014}

Saturday, May 31, 2014

Today is a very special day.
It's the last day of the month when we share our 12 Kits Of Occasions projects.
It's also my 11th wedding anniversary!

Joyce is the hostess this month
and she put together a fun red, white, and blue, nautical/Father's Day themed kit for us.
This month we also have 2 guest designers.
Lindsey won her kit from a little contest Joyce had on the 12 Kits Of Occasions Blog.
Sherrie is a surprise guest that Joyce selected.  She kept it a secret from us for a long time too!
I can't wait to see what they have made with their kits.

This first card is a fun collage of elements for Dad.

I decided to make a shaker for this card.  Since my sequins were all different colors {none of which matched my project} I decided to use vellum instead of acetate.  This way the colors from the sequins show through, but are very subtle at the same time.  The colors didn't matter.

For this one I had a little fun with my washi tape.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Make sure to visit the other girls and see what they have made.
I'm sure it's awesome.
For a full supply list visit the 12 Kits Of Occasion Blog.

Perfect Fit

Happy Friday
There are a lot of exciting things happening starting with the
beautiful new projects that have been added to The Friday Inspiration File...Week #170.
Many new faces this week. Check them out!
The next thing is my 11th wedding anniversary is tomorrow.
I made this card for Ryan.

The crosses are the negative pieces of PTI's Modern Cross Quilt Die that were included in the
May 12 Kits Of Occasions kit that Joyce sent this month.  Which brings me to the next exciting thing, tomorrow we all share our projects from this month's kit and we have 2 special guests joining us this month.

All of these crosses were colored using WP9 Pure Color Dye Ink from the Original 10 Collection.  I used: Wild Mango, Sweet Nectar, Nautical Navy, and Lake House.
And if you follow WPlus9 on Instagram and/or Facebook you know that there's a HOT! new collection coming VERY soon!

Stamped Stitches

Sunday, May 25, 2014

Recently I added Jayne's card to the Friday Inspiration File.
Her card has a beautiful stitched pattern on it that I wanted to try to recreate with my stamps.
I had a few stamps in mind since I had used them before to create faux stitched looks.
This one, for example, uses the plus sign from Headline Alphabet to create the stitches.

I decided to use a little stamp from Button Boutique on this card.
It seemed like a better size for this design.

To achieve the light berry color I just 'stamped off'
once before stamping onto my project.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Enjoy the hop!

Friday Inspiration File #169

Friday, May 23, 2014

Hello! It's Friday and that means I have added some
of my favorite projects from the week to The Friday Inspiration File.
One of my favorites is a beautiful stitched pattern that Jayne did.
I'm working on my own stamped version in the PTI Blog Hop colors.
Above is my first practice attempt.
I hope you have a wonderful {holiday} weekend!

{Quickie} Card

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

This sweet little card came together quickly with just bits of other projects left on my table.
I love that, especially on a school night where there's a ton of things to do after work, but I still feel the need to create something.

I selectively inked one of the sentiments
from Strictly Sentiments 4 to make it fit my 'love' theme.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Hello There

Sunday, May 18, 2014

Hello There!
It's Sunday, which would be my favorite day of the week if it weren't followed by...Monday!
All of the housework is done so I have time to spend in my craft room until meeting up with friends later for our first BBQ of the season.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Excited For You

Friday, May 16, 2014

TGIF!
if you're interested in how I have been creating my marbled paper and this butterfly.
You should stop by and see what Dawn has been doing with her stamps.
She is turning them into beautiful watercolor images that even I can recreate.
{I'm no where near as good at it as she is, but I have been impressed with my beginner results!}
I have also added beautiful new projects to the Friday Inspiration File for this week if you need a little extra inspiration.

Have a Wonderful Weekend!

{Copic } Marbling Day 6

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

Happy Wednesday!

A little more Copic marbling to share with you today.
I have a thing for layering my panels at angles lately.  I blame it on Chupa!
I love when she does that.

Hope your week is going well!

{Copic} Marbling Day 5

Tuesday, May 13, 2014

I'm going to wrap up this Marbling Series with one more medium, Copic marker refills.
I've tried many mediums.  Some worked, some didn't.
I've tried mists, paints, and even my Wink Of Stella glitter pens.
The Wink Of Stella pens actually worked too!

Each medium gives a different look, a different type of marbling.
The Copic refills give a more wispy look while the nail polish was very bright and opaque, and the pastels very vibrant and mottled.
The wispy look is what inspired me to create a scene using WP9 Cloud Dies
and the sun rays from A Pocketful.
The technique is the same only the medium has changed.

Thanks for stopping by today!
I have one more project, using this technique, to share tomorrow.

{Pastel} Marbling Day 4

Monday, May 12, 2014

As much as I love using contrasting colors like blue and orange,
a monochromatic color scheme is calming and just as beautiful!

Here are the directions again in case you missed them:

Steps for creating this marbled pastel background:
1. Fill shallow container with water
2. Use a craft knife to shave desired pastel colors onto water's surface
3. Swirl the colors together to achieve desired effect
4. Place paper onto surface of water and remove
{you can dip it more than once if you did not pick up enough color the first time}
5. Allow to dry and spray with a fixative to avoid smudging

After following the above steps, I stamped onto the piece.  The large 'hello' didn't stamp well on top of the pastels and fixative, so I used a black marker to fill it in.
Thanks for stopping by today!
