52Q-10 Name 5 Movies That Inspire You Creatively

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

I look forward to the responses to this week's question. Ryan and I love to rent movies and it will be great to have a list of some well loved and inspiring movies to check out. My list is:

The Piano
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Nightmare Before Christmas
James and the Giant Peach
Royal Tenenbaums

All are beautiful visually. They make me want to make things or take pictures of things.

Still image from the movie is printed on vellum and heat embossed. I layered that over part of a calendar photograph taken by Ansel Adams. A masking tape transfer of sheet music is layered between the two. It is very subtle, but is visible. (see photo above)

Saturday Morning

Saturday, March 7, 2009

I love Saturday morning. It's nice to wake up together. During the week, Ryan has left for work before I get up.

I have a new found appreciation/ love of vintage kitchen linens. Love the bright colors and bold patterns.

Hope you are having a great weekend.

Color Challenge #44

Thursday, March 5, 2009

Another great color combo from Kristina. I really love brown with pink and with blue.

I started a painting class today. The art teacher at my school started a painting club with the students and invited any staff that would like to join. I think it is so cool of him to extend the invitation to us as well. I'm looking forward to our art 'exhibit' at the end of the 6 weeks.

Tomorrow is Friday!! Enjoy your weekend.

What Does It Mean To Be Brave?

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

"A coward is incapable of exhibiting love; it is the prerogative of the brave."

Mahatma Gandhi

Someone once said that bravery was not the absence of fear, but feeling the fear and doing it anyway. I don't remember who, but I like that.

52Q question 9 is:
What was the last brave thing I did?

Got Snow?

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

EDIT: Thanks so much for your compliments Yankee in England. I punched the holes in the coasters using a regular hand held hole punch. If I was punching through an area with a sticker I did have to ask my husband to do it, but he punched through it with no problem.

We got a lot yesterday. I think this is the most we have gotten since we moved into our house 4 years ago. Lady absolutely loves it.

I tried just watching Ryan shovel, but that didn't work too well, for me. I helped him shovel the sidewalk. This is when having a corner lot is not so great:)

I put together a quick and easy mini book using photos and a few supplies. I mounted the photos on coasters, sanded the edges, added a few stamps and stickers and I was done.

So, there you go Robin:)

Bag O'Buttons

Monday, March 2, 2009

We went to the auction this weekend and both found something to make us happy. I scored a huge bag full of vintage buttons for $1. These red ones are my favorites. Love the flower ones too.

Ryan got a bag of fresh, warm , roasted peanuts. Especially nice on a cold March Saturday. Just feels good to hold the warm bag in your hands while you walk around.

My parents had a Bar Mitzvah to go to and asked if I would make them a card. This is what I came up with. Not being too familiar with the Jewish faith, I hope it was appropriate.

Also visited my mother-in-law this weekend and she gave me a ton of these doilies made by people in the family, grandmothers, great-grandmothers. So pretty! Maybe I'll be able to try this after all. With all the snow that is piling up outside, I know it is cold enough.

Going out to play in the snow with Ladybug now and watch Ryan shovel the driveway:)
Have a great day!

What was the last thing that made you laugh out loud?

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Question Number 8 was posted yesterday and I got a visual image of like an old carnival type mouth laughing and I really wanted to make my tag in that style. So, this is what I came up with and it too, made me laugh out loud!
