Enjoy Your Special Day {RS #2 and CR84FN #50}

Hi!  I've got a card today for two challenges, a new and old favorite.  Retro Sketches is a new challenge blog that is only on it's second sketch.  Love the sketches so far!  The old favorite is CR84FN color challenge.  CR84FN is on its 50th challenge!  

Week #2 at Retro Sketches

I did it again!  I forgot to photograph the inside sentiment before attaching everything to the card front.  Inside the zipper it says, "Sending You Something Special." 

This is a beautiful frame stamp from the Pretty Peonies Anniversary Set from PTI.  I stamped the butterflies over the frame stamp in Berry Sorbet and then cut around the frame and butterflies to create the focal point for the card.  The pinkish butterflies are Berry Sorbet that have been "stamped off" once, but I am looking forward to the release of Sweet Blush ink!

Like Sunshine After Rain

This card and previous attempts are the reasons I went to the forum to pose the question,

Is it just me?

I love this new set, Lovely Leaves, but couldn't get the leaves to line up with the branch. (As you can see:)  After closer study of design team creations I think I've figured it out. 

Let's hope I get it right next time!  I chose these fun, bright colors after seeing the patterned paper below on the Moxie Fab blog.

MIM #56 {Die Cutting Partial Images}

This week's Make It Monday is a very cool technique for partial die cutting.  It involves foam and chip board in order to selectively die cut only the portion you want.  I don't have any foam and to be honest, I'm too lazy to do all of that.  Like Elena, my first thought was I could stamp and image and just cut around the top portion and get the same effect.  But while lying in bed I starting coming up with this design and I don't have the skills to hand cut around that scalloped oval.  I decided to draw a line on my cardstock, line up my die, tape it on to the cardstock, and then carefully run only half of the die through my cuttlebug. Leigh cut hers the same way on her beautiful page. Then all I had to do was cut along the line to remove the rest of the cardstock around the die cut portion. 

Worked perfectly!

I think this could be really cute as a band for Easter eggs.

ColourQ #127

Hi!  It's Tuesday and that means another color challenge from the ColourQ!! 

 I love these beautiful colors together!

To create the heart border and frame I die cut and then stamped them with a Fiskars stamp called Henna Petals. Then I colored in the design with with copics that coordinate with the color palette.

Retro Sketches #1

I made this card for a fun, new challenge called Retro Sketches.

A little more experimenting with watercoloring using ink and water.  I used Spring Moss and Spring Rain ink again.  This time brushed on after heat embossing the peonies with white embossing powder onto watercolor paper.  I didn't like how the whole piece came out, but there was enough there that I did like to die cut these two butterflies!

Watercolor Peonies

Have you ever seen/used Wild Asparagus papers from My Mind's Eye?  I no longer have any scrapbook stores near by, but when I did I always went straight for this paper line.  I just loved the prints and colors.  Playing around in my craft room last night, I came up with a design that reminded me of those papers.  I tapped my spring rain and spring moss ink pad directly onto my craft mat.  I added just a bit of water with a paint brush and mixed the two colors together on the mat.  Then I took the solid peony stamp and stamped into the the ink/water mixture.  When I stamped that onto my watercolor paper it didn't give me a crisp flower shape because of all the water.  I decided to then stamp the outline peony over the solid image in kraft ink. 

I loved the effect!
