Stenciling With Glossy Accents

Today I have fun, colorful, birthday cards to share with you.

I thought it would be fun to try to stencil with Glossy Accents!

 

 

I taped my cardstock down to my work surface and then taped the stencil over top using blue painter's tape.  The more contact you have between the stencil and cardstock the better.  You don't want the glossy accents to spread underneath the stencil.  When it did it made a mess and ripped the paper when I removed the stencil. 

 

 

I found that applying some glossy accents to my palette knife directly and then spreading it over the stencil worked the best.  Also, spreading in one direction helps to prevent the glossy accents from squishing under the stencil.  Once I had good even coverage, I let it sit for just a few seconds to help it set up.  Then I slowly removed the tape and the stencil from the paper and set it aside to dry. 

 

 

Once it's dry there are so many things you could do with it.

I decided to add color using distress inks and on my second card I die cut it.

 

 

It's a really fun technique for adding some shine and dimension to your projects!

The {PURECOLOR} Blues

 

 

I wanted to try all of the WPlus9 blues together.

They are all very different, but work so well together.

I stamped a pattern using Quilt Prints.

 

 

The pattern was bold, but I didn't want to cover it up.

I used a piece of vellum to soften it and push it into the background so my sentiment would be the focal point.

WPlus9 Merry & Bright

 

For this card I decided that the poinsettias from Merry & Bright stamped in tropical colors could pass for hibiscus.  What do you think?

I have masked off the center of the card using masking paper. 

 The 'hibiscus' is stamped in Flamingo, Miami Spice, and Wild Mango.

Using the rock and roll technique, the leaves have been stamped in Mojito and Appletini.

To finish it off, the sentiment and accents have been stamped in Coconut Husk.

 

 

I hope you love these new colors as much as I do.

Copic Colorless Blender Refill {Love}

 

WPlus9 Pure Color Dye Ink South Beach Collection Available Tomorrow 6/5/14

 

I shared a little sneak peek of this project last night on Instagram.

Dawn has been doing some beautiful techniques using her Copic colorless blender marker on top of stamped images.  It got me thinking....I wonder if these Pure Color Dye Inks react with colorless blender solution similar to the way that distress inks react with water....and in many ways they do!

 

 

You can apply ink to paper and add drips of the colorless blender solution to create all kinds of cool splatters.  For this card I decided to add the ink onto an acrylic block and then drip the solution onto the ink.  Then I placed my piece of white cardstock onto the acrylic block to pick up the color.  The longer you wait the more the splatters spread out.  Have fun experimenting!

The piece dries rather quickly as the solution evaporates.

I die cut the word 'love'  and the heart from Seasonal Sentiments.  Then I stamped my sentiments from Strictly Sentiments 4 and Hand Lettered Hello in Coconut Husk Ink (available 6/5/14)

To finish off the card I colored a few strips of white cardstock with Ocean Drive Ink

to border the main panel.

{Hello} Notecards

 

Hello Sweet Friends!

Today I have little note card set using the new WPlus9 Pure Color Dye Ink South Beach Collection.

I have used the tiny berry stamp from Spring Blooms to create a fun pattern.

After stamping the pattern, I die cut the curves. If you don't have a die for this you could easily free hand a curve with a craft knife.

 

 

I die cut the same curve out of another piece of white cardstock and colored each with the new Pure Color Dye Inks to create custom 'cardstock'.  I made one for each color, Flamingo, Mojito, Miami Spice, and Ocean Drive.

 

 

I layered the pieces together and then stamped my sentiments in

Coconut Husk Ink using the Hand Lettered Hello stamp set.

For this card I stamped leaves and flowers

from Spring Blooms using the rock and roll technique.

I wanted the images to have a soft, variegated look to them.

The flowers were first inked up with Miami Spice (available 6/5/14) and then the edges were rolled

in Flamingo (available 6/5/14).  The leaves were inked with Mojito and then rolled into a previously released color, Appletini. The berries and sentiment from Hand Lettered Hello

were stamped using Coconut Husk (available 6/5/14).
