{Pastel} Marbling Day 4

Monday, May 12, 2014

As much as I love using contrasting colors like blue and orange,
a monochromatic color scheme is calming and just as beautiful!

Here are the directions again in case you missed them:

Steps for creating this marbled pastel background:
1. Fill shallow container with water
2. Use a craft knife to shave desired pastel colors onto water's surface
3. Swirl the colors together to achieve desired effect
4. Place paper onto surface of water and remove
{you can dip it more than once if you did not pick up enough color the first time}
5. Allow to dry and spray with a fixative to avoid smudging

After following the above steps, I stamped onto the piece.  The large 'hello' didn't stamp well on top of the pastels and fixative, so I used a black marker to fill it in.
Thanks for stopping by today!

{Pastel} Marbling Day 3

Sunday, May 11, 2014

Hi!
I'm back again with another marbling technique.
This time I've put away my nail polish and pulled out my pastels.

Steps for creating this marbled pastel background:
1. Fill shallow container with water
2. Use a craft knife to shave desired pastel colors onto water's surface
3. Swirl the colors together to achieve desired effect
4. Place paper onto surface of water and remove
{you can dip it more than once if you did not pick up enough color the first time}
5. Allow to dry and spray with a fixative to avoid smudging

For this card I took it one step further.  I ran it through my Xyron sticker maker {colored side down}.
I carefully removed the release paper exposing the adhesive
and coated the entire piece in clear glitter.
The pattern reminded me of star nebula in some far off galaxy!

Have fun experimenting with different color combinations!

{Nail Polish} Marbling Day 2

Saturday, May 10, 2014

Good Afternoon!
As I shared yesterday, I made a second marbled piece using nail polish.
I used a sketch from Retro Sketches as a staring point for this card's design.

Here are the directions from yesterday's post in case you missed it:
{Using an old shallow container {I used an old plastic take out container}filled with about an inch of water, I drizzled each color of nail polish onto the water's surface.  Using the end of a thin paint brush, I swirled the polish colors together until it looked cool.
Working rather quickly, I placed a piece of water color paper face down onto the swirls and then removed it.  The nail polish adheres quickly to the paper.  I set it aside to dry and then you are left with the most gorgeous paper to work with!}

Have a great weekend and
Happy Mother's Day!

{Nail Polish} Marbling

Friday, May 9, 2014

Today I have a fun project using nail polish to create a marble effect.

Using an old shallow container {I used an old plastic take out container}filled with about an inch of water, I drizzled each color of nail polish onto the water's surface.  Using the end of a thin paint brush, I swirled the polish colors together until it looked cool.
Working rather quickly, I placed a piece of water color paper face down onto the swirls and then removed it.  The nail polish adheres quickly to the paper.  I set it aside to dry and then you are left with the most gorgeous paper to work with!

Work in a well ventilated area because the odor from the polish is quite strong.

I created an envelope wrap for this week's Make It Monday
and used a sketch from CAS(E) this sketch!

I LOVE this second piece with the blue and orange combination.
I can't wait to use it on my next project!

Thanks for stopping by!
If you try this technique, let me know.
I'd love to check it out!

{HELLO} Sweet Friend

Sunday, May 4, 2014

Hello, sweet friends.
How was your weekend?
We got a lot of work done around here.
We re-mulched all of the trees and flower beds,
added new flowers, popped out all of the dandelions on the lawn,
 re-seeded some areas that needed it,
and added a few new pillows to the porch to brighten things up for spring.
I also put out my hummingbird feeder and hope to have some visitors soon.
Inside, the bathroom is coming along more quickly since Ryan's traveling has slowed down.
It should be done soon!!

For this card, I used my WP9 Dye Inks to create some watercolor stripes and splatters.
Then I stamped and embossed my sentiment.
It's really simple, but I love the colors!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Using Scraps {Or Creating New Ones}

Friday, May 2, 2014

I received a prize from the Moxie Fab prize drawer that included this Now & Then line from My Mind's Eye.  I love the colors and patterns and was excited to use them with this week's Make It Monday technique.

Instead of using up scraps, I created a ton of new ones ;)

See ya later!
