Yesterday I decided to pull out my pastels. This is a color medium I love to work with. There are so many things you can do with them. I love to use them for creating marbled paper for my projects. See a few examples of that
Today, I have used them with images stamped in Versamark embossing ink.
For this first card I wanted to create a rainbow starting from the top left moving down to the bottom. I stamped 5 butterflies in Versamark ink onto white cardstock. Starting with red, I used my craft knife to shave color from the pastel onto my project, specifically over the stamped butterfly. Since my next color was orange, I added just a touch of orange to the red butterfly before moving onto the second. The second butterfly got mostly orange and a bit of yellow since the next color in the rainbow is yellow and so on...
Once all of the color had been added, I used my finger to lightly pat the pastel into the Versamark butterflies. Using a small towel, I swiped the color from each butterfly in opposite directions to create a trail of color. I love how it came out!
I applied color to this second project in a slightly different way. After stamping my butterflies in Versamark I decided to add color, still in rainbow order, from the inside out. As you can see in the picture above I shaved red in the center, orange around that, yellow outside of that, and so on...
Again, I used my finger to press the pastel into the ink and used the towel to swipe the color. These butterflies have a completely different look.
Thanks for visiting.
I hope you experiment and have fun!
If you do, let me know. I'd love to come by and see!

Don't know how I missed this post! Your cards are gorgeous! I've never tried pastels on cards but seeing your technique makes me want to try. I have some very old pastels that I can get out and play with. Did you spray the butterflies with a fixative or just cover with the vellum?
ReplyDeleteAmazing! You constantly inspire me with your creativity.
